Miss Elaine NightgownWhen you’re looking for evening ware that speaks of elegance, comfort and a sense of coziness, Miss Elaine Nightgowns should be on your list. Miss Elaine has become synonymous worldwide with loungewear and sleep ware sure to make any one feel feminine and beautiful.

There’s a sense of whimsy to her designs – with fabric that moves and breaths and just enough trim or embroidery to make each piece looks and fits as great as it feels. Better still, Miss Elaine’s lines come in sizes and styles suited for nearly any lifestyle or figure.

Red Miss Elaine Vintage NightgownThe company started in 1926. It’s a family owned and operated business that spans several generations. The idea behind her line was creating high quality sleepware that is tasteful and easy to care for. Even to this day you can find Miss Elaine items in various department stores and shops that specialize in boudoir clothing.

One item for which her line is most famous is a fabric called Silk Essence. While not silk, the fabric has a similarly sheer consistency that’s incredibly soft against the skin. Better still it’s machine washable. The colors in her lines range the spectrum and include Ice Pink and Aqua. The sweep of Miss Elaine nightgowns allow for plenty of leg room, and unlike many pieces of night ware you’ll find the lace just as soft as the fabric.

Vintage Miss Elaine NightgownLike other clothing lines several of her designs have been discontinued meaning they can also be collectibles. The label for Miss Elaine pieces is relatively distinctive. All feature the name Miss Elaine in script. In the 1950s the script was sometimes green. By the 1960s the labels changed to gold script and white backing. Up until the early 1980s the script featured a curl on the front end of Miss and an extended curl on the top of Elaine so that it stretched over to the “I” in her name. That feature ceased to a simpler script, and then a combination of printing and script on the Miss and Elaine respectively.

In terms of value Miss Elaine nightgowns from the 30’s can be quite expensive sometimes fetching as much as $200.00. By comparison items from the 60’s and 70’s cost anywhere from $15 - $40 depending on the length and extensiveness of decorative touches. On average a new Miss Elaine piece will cost about $50.00, which is still fairly affordable for a small piece of luxury.

Vintage Intime Maribu Trimmed PeignoirThe top seller was this black Vintage Intime Maribu Trimmed Peignoir.  It sold for $489.99.

Vintage Heavenly Silk by Fischer Silk & Lace Night Gown & RobeNext is this 1940s "Heavenly Silk by Fischer" Silk nightgown & robe set.  It received 17 bids and sold for $293.95.

1940s Silk Embroidered NightgownThis 1940s silk embroidered nightgown was the third highest.  It received 24 bids and sold for $255.

Here is the seller's description: "This unworn vintage peach silk embroidered lingerie slip dress nightgown dates from the 1940s. It is hand stitched, made of pastel peach silk fabric, with decorative embroidered stitched details and an outlined floral pattern design. This lovely lingerie sensual slip dress nightgown negligee has a bias cut, is a long floor length, with plunging V necklines, adjustable tie shoulder straps and belted back sash. The nightgown measures 60 inches long, with 44 inch hips, a 40 inch waist and 38 inch bust."

 

Vintage Jonquil By Diane Samandi Nightgown & PeignoirNext was this nightgown and peignoir set by Jonquil By Diane Samandi.  The seller stated it was unworn and still had the original retail tags.  The set sold for $235.

Vintage Olga Nightgown Style # 92050This Vintage Olga Nightgown - style number # 92050 - sold for $174.99.

The seller noted that both the twisted bodice designs and this beautiful sapphire blue color are hard to find in the Olga world.  I guess because of  the dropped waist, this looked like it could be a shorter length gown.  But it is full length at 55 inches and it has a sweep of 200 inches.  The back is all elastic lace, like you see on the sides of the bodice.

 

Vintage Olga Nightgown style # 9277Another Olga nightgown, this one style number 9277 in white, was next.  This one was a size medium and received 4 bidsbefore selling for $165.49.  It has a 180 inch sweep at the lace trimmed hem.

Vintage Miss Elaine Chiffon Peignoir Robe Nightgown SetThis Miss Elaine Chiffon Peignoir & Nightgown set was next.    I sold for the listing price of $149.99.

The seller stated the lace on the sleeve trim measured 4 1/2" long and the nightgown and robe were trimmed on matching lace inserts.

 

Contessa Plus Size Vintage NightgownA rare find - a plus size vintage nightgown - was next.  This one is a size 3X Contessa Robe and Nightgown set.  It received 2 bids and sold for $149.99.

It consists of chiffon layers over nylon in mocha and lilac and embroidery in a bow motif.

Vintage Vanity Fair Chiffon NightgownNext is this vintage Vanity Fair nightgown.  With its layers of chiffon and shades of pink, it looks like it stepped right out of a fairy tale.  It sold for $149.99

Vintage Olga Nightgown Peignoir SetFinishing up the top ten, is this vintage Olga nightgown and peignoir Set.  It sold for $125.

The nightgown is style number 92280, with a 144 inch sweep.  The matching robe is Olga style number 94280.

Vintage Olga Nightgown 9625 is a unique design with a keyhole bodice.

The keyhole opening has a tie to allow the fit to be adjusted perfectly. It has an empire waist and a V back that come to about mid-back. The gown also has a wide sweep.

The skirt has a large sweep that ranges from 104 to 120 inches (depending on the size).

The lower cut V-neck bodice is gathered with sheer stretch lace.

It has an empire waist and low cut scoop back.

Evidently this was sold with a matching robe, as many of them that are offered for sale also have the robe.

Olga Style 92147Vintage Olga Style 92147Olga Nightgown Style #92147 has a "built in" padded bra.  It does not have the dramatic sweep that many other Olga's have, but it does have a beautiful low cut bodice with spaghetti straps.  Instead of Small - Medium - Large sizing, these are sized by bust sizes - 32, 34, 36, 38, etc.

These are hard to find, but all of the Olga styles with built-in bras are very popular - for those of us who either want mire support or more padding - or both.  The straight back is also fairly low cut and it is made of the wonderful Olga stretchy/supportive fabric, which will ensure a perfect fit.

Vintage Olga Nightgown #92067Vintage Olga Nightgown Style #92067 is a bit different than the "traditional Olga".  It has lace trimmed 3/4 length sleeves, a deep V-neckline with sheer lace that goes to the waist and a full sweep.  This is a rarer style, but it is a beauty!

Lucie Ann Vintage NightgownsLucie Ann Vintage Nightgowns are among the most glamorous and desirable vintage nightgowns.   Lucie Ann Lingerie was founded by Lucie Onderwyzer in 1949.  Located in Beverly Hills, CA, her glamorous nightgowns and lingerie were worn by Hollywood's glamorous stars such as Elizabeth Taylor.  She designed all of the peignoir sets worn by Eva Gabor on the 1960's series Green Acres.

Lucie Ann designs are known for bold color and glamorous details, such a marabu trim, pompons and rhinestones.  They were sold at the upscale and exclusive Beverly Hills boutique, Claire Sandra of Beverly Hills.

After Lucie Onderwyzer passed away in 1988 (at the age of 75), Lucie Ann Lingerie was sold to Deena Lingerie Company. Deena Lingerie began producing the "Lucie Ann II" line in 1990.   In 1996, Deena Lingerie, along with the Lucie Ann line was sold to Lady Ester Lingerie Company. Lady Ester is still manufacturing lingerie, including the Lucie Ann line, along with other well known names such as Val Mode, Perfectform and Wondermaid.  Lucie Ann II Fashion sleepwear, leisure and loungewear is sold today in major chain stores, department and specialty stores.
